The usual first questions.
Quick answers to the questions that usually come up first. If yours isn't here, email hello@symoxy.com and it probably will be next.
How do you price projects?
Fixed price when the scope is clear enough to commit to, honest ranges when it isn't. Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute call; within a few days you get a written scope with the price, the timeline, and what's excluded. No retainer commitment, no hourly billing surprises.
Who owns the code when we're done?
You do. Every engagement transfers the code, credentials, documentation, and hosting accounts to your control. Built for handoff from day one — you can hire anyone else to maintain the work, and you won't need permission to do it.
What if we already have an engineering team?
Usually the most productive setup. Symoxy can embed as a technical lead on a specific initiative, stay arms-length as an advisor, or handle a specific system turnkey while the in-house team owns the rest. The engagement flexes to what you need; it's not an agency seat-filling play.
Do you handle maintenance after the build?
Optional. Monthly support retainers are available for clients who want ongoing coverage; others take the code and run. There's no lock-in clause forcing either choice — the handoff artifacts (runbooks, docs, access transfer) mean your team can maintain it without Symoxy's help.
What kinds of work do you turn down?
Most engagements are a fit if the scope is buildable and the work genuinely matters to the business. The exceptions: safety-critical systems (medical, industrial control, life-safety) where a one-engineer operation isn't the right risk profile; marketing sites without real logic under them; businesses built on speculative assets going up; and work where AI is doing the actual reasoning rather than orchestrating known steps. Scope that can't be pinned down even after a discovery call is usually a sign to part ways too.
How is Symoxy different from a staffing agency or dev shop?
Staffing agencies sell engineer-hours; dev shops sell teams. Symoxy sells the outcome and the engineer working on it — the same person across discovery, scope, build, and handoff. Pricing reflects that: you're paying for the decisions and the code, not the filled seat.
What technologies do you work in?
Full-stack web (Next.js / React / Node), TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Docker. For media workflows: Iconik API, FFmpeg pipelines, webhook-driven integrations. For automation and backend work: AWS and other major cloud providers, serverless functions, custom webhook handlers, scheduled jobs, and n8n when a visual workflow fits the job. Comfortable integrating most third-party APIs (Stripe, Gmail, Cloudflare, etc.). Native iOS/Android when a workflow needs mobile. Stack choices lean toward boring tech that will still be maintained in five years.
How long do projects usually take?
Two to eight weeks for a discrete scope. Longer engagements break into two-week increments with real demos, not progress reports. If something looks like it'll exceed the scope, you hear about it early — fixed price means the scope is clear, not that surprises get hidden.
Do you specialize in a particular industry?
Yes — media and post-production. Symoxy works deeply in Iconik-based media asset management: bespoke metadata tooling, archive/restore automation, bridges between the MAM and everything around it, custom operator interfaces for teams who've outgrown the defaults. The engineering applies to any business with durable internal tooling needs, but media ops is where the deepest domain knowledge lives.
Where are you based? Do you work remotely?
US East Coast, working remotely with clients anywhere. Hours are flexible — off-hours, weekends, and non-US time zones are all on the table. Async-by-default, with real-time collaboration whenever the work calls for it.
What's the first step to working together?
A 30-minute intro call — free, no obligation. Come with a rough problem statement; leave with either a clearer view of scope or an honest "this isn't the right fit." If there's a match, written scope and pricing follow within a few days. No drawn-out sales process, no multi-meeting discovery theater.
